In this class we are going to use our naturally dyed yarn from A Verb For Keeping Warm and learn to design a custom shawl, scarf or even small blanket. We will plot a design using garter stitch and wedge shapes, created with short row shaping. You will leave with the pattern and the skills to come up with future designs whenever you have a skein or two of yarn and want to create a unique wrap. It’s a simple, streamlined design that allows special yarn to shine.
We will be doing an I-cord CO, BO and short row shaping, so if those are unknown to you, you’ll learn some new tricks!
Provided: 1 skein of A Verb For Keeping Warm naturally dyed yarn
Supplies You Need to Bring:
One red and one yellow stitch marker
Size US 5 needles (if you are a loose/tight knitter you may wish to bring a US 4-6 just in case). These can be circ or straight.
Yarn snips/scissors
In this class, anyone who is interested in learning Judy’s magic CO, Magic Loop and lifted increases for toe-up socks is welcome to give it a try. If you’d rather keep working on your wrap from the first class, that’s fine, too. You will receive the pattern for the socks so you can try it later at home with your eco-printed yarn.
Supplies You Need to Bring:
Size US 2 circ needle with at least 40” cord for Magic Loop. If you are more comfortable with dpn’s, that’s fine, too. Tight/Loose knitters might want to bring extra needle sizes (US 1-3).
Yarn snips/scissors
This delightful form of natural dyeing begins with a piece of pre-knit “fabric” which you will dye to create your own unique knitting yarn! Using the method known as eco-printing, you will learn how to press flowers and leaves into the fabric, fold it and roll it and tie it to create a bundle. The bundles will be simmered, cooled, then unrolled for the exciting reveal. You can then use this yarn for the Wedge Wrap, the Eco-Print socks, or for a project of your choosing.
