Learn the techniques to make the Safe at Home block. This easy block is the basis for the Safe at Home blanket pattern. You’ll learn how to perform pick up and knit on diagonal edges, simple intarsia for garter stitch, how to read a color chart, and the basic geometric of garter stitch knitting. We’ll learn assembly and finishing techniques to make your finished object perfect. We’ll see some inspirational projects based on this design.
Technique Requirements: Knit stitch, knitted cast on (i.e. two-needle cast on), knitted bind off (i.e. two-needle bind off)
With color for Ground Floor (C1), and a knitted cast on, cast on 12 stitches. Knit 6 rows.
US size 7 / 4.5 mm straight or circular knitting needles, (optional) 7/ 4.5 mm crochet hook. Stitch markers. Stitch holder. Tapestry needle.
Yarn should be worsted (medium-4) weight. The abbreviation (C1-C5) for colors that will be used in the handout is included for cross-reference purposes:
Ground Floor (C1): 12 yds / 11 m
Windows (C2): 2 yds / 2 m
Doors and primary Roof Strip (C3): 7.5 yds/ 7 m
Alternate Roof Strip (C4): 4.5 yds / 4.5 m
Skies (C5): 9 yds / 8.5 m
