Business Accelerator Program

Vogue Knitting is excited to announce the Business Accelerator by Knitting LIVE!, developed by members of the Diversity Advisory Council. Vogue Knitting is committed to excellence and education in the fiber industry, and through this program, we hope to support new entrepreneurs as they develop their fiber businesses.

What is the Purpose of this Program?

The Business Accelerator was developed as part of Knitting LIVE!’s commitment to the future of the fiber arts. This program provides business resources and mentorship support for professional independent yarn dyers, and knitwear and crochet designers who are part of marginalized groups and need extra assistance in starting or advancing their fiber business through mentorship with thought leaders in the industry. There are 8 mentorship spots available. The program requires a minimum of 4 participants to run - 2 designers and 2 dyers.

What is the Goal of this Program?

The ultimate goal of this program is to support the sustainability of the fiber industry as well as increase diversity within the industry. We envision a future in which our industry is more inclusive and more equitable, and are committed to doing what we can to make this happen.

Who Can Apply?

Any small business owner specializing in small-batch yarn or pattern design can apply. This program is designed for small business owners who are looking for access to resources and seeking advice from experts to help support their growing business. Though primarily aimed at BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ small business owners, applications from everyone are welcome and will be considered, no matter your age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or socioeconomic status. Applications will be reviewed and accepted by Ana Campos, Brittany Garber, Kim McBrien Evans, and a representative from Vogue Knitting.

More About Our Priorities

Applications from BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color)  and LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and other identities) small business owners are prioritized, but we understand there are other marginalized groups such as people with disabilities or people whose first language is not English, who face barriers to entry across our industry. With this in mind, we welcome applications from everyone.

What is the Structure of this Program?

The Business Accelerator is a year-long mentorship program with an additional masterclass component, designed to help you develop a specific area of your business. Each participant will be assigned to a mentor with experience in their specific type of business. Participants will have the option to schedule monthly 30-minute zoom calls with their mentor to discuss their specific business concerns, for a maximum of 12 mentor calls. In addition to this one-on-one coaching, participants will have access to five 90-minute masterclass sessions with the mentors and their fellow mentees, as well as a workbook to complete throughout the program.

What are the Masterclass Sessions?

This program includes two Masterclass curricula, one tailored to yarn dyers, and one tailored to pattern designers. Each Masterclass session will also allow for group discussion.

Masterclass Sessions for Pattern Designers:

To be announced soon!

What is the Schedule?

This is a year-long mentorship program running March 2025 to the end of February 2026. Masterclass sessions will be scheduled March through August, leaving the rest of the year for self-directed projects. Each  mentee will be responsible for scheduling their monthly 30 minute one-on-one calls.

Expectations

Ideal candidates for this program are self-motivated and invested in getting the most out of this program. Upon acceptance, each mentee will receive a workbook to accompany the program. Mentees are expected to:

Attend all Masterclass sessions and participate in group discussion
Take ownership of scheduling their monthly one-on-one mentorship calls
Complete each section of their workbook by the appropriate deadline

What is the Cost of This Program?

$750 per person. This program is heavily subsidized by sponsors, mentors, and instructors. Compared to similar business support programs and one-on-one mentorships, this pricing is well-below market value. All registration fees will go towards compensating professional mentors for their time and expertise, as well as to build a scholarship fund for future years so the program can expand.

When is the Deadline to Apply?

Applications open on January 3rd, and close February 7, 2025.

Notification of acceptance to the program: February 21, 2025.

Additional Opportunities

Halfway through the program, graduates will have the opportunity to apply to participate at Vogue Knitting LIVE! In New York in January 2026 in the following capacities:

Yarn vendor: apply to vend in a shared booth with other mentees at VKL at a steeply discounted rate.
Pattern designer: apply to have designs shown in the teacher fashion show and/or have a pattern showcase as an artist in a shared booth with other mentees
