Fern is a lacy edged shawl, knit side to side. We’ll learn about this intuitive shawl construction which features a tidy i-cord edge, garter stitch body, and lacy edging. We’ll talk about ways to maximize the size of your shawl based on the amount of yarn you have, a new stretchy bind off, and also learn how to add beads to your knitting. Come to class with a swatch, 16 sts wide and 5 rows in stockinette (knit on RS, purl on WS). We’ll practice our lace stitches and add beads to this swatch before casting on the real deal.
One skein of fingering weight or light fingering weight yarn, at least 400 yards. 24 inch US 4 (3.5 mm) or US5 (3.75 mm) circular needle, or size that gives you a fabric you like. 300 size 6/0 or 8/0 seed beads, and US 13/14 (.090 mm) crochet hook for placing beads, or a Bead-Aid, if you choose to add beads. 2 stitch markers.
