Class Details:

Yup: we’re going to cut our knitting, no w(h)ine required. Be it stranded or plain work, cut steeks are (if you’ll allow for the pun) a shortcut for knitting in the round and can accommodate design aspects that might not be possible otherwise. But before we touch our scissors, we’ll stabilize our work in a few different ways, and explore finished (or not!) edges after they’ve been cut. We will talk about closure options for cardigan sweaters including button bands, I-cord edgings, and zippers. Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, basic finishing techniques

Homework:

Using good quality worsted weight yarn, cast on 48 sts. Join to work in the round and knit until swatch is 6" long, bind off. Swatch can also be worked flat if the knitter prefers. Please do not use ribbing or garter stitch hem treatments as they can obscure the matter in class.

Supplies for Class:

Needles one size smaller than the ones you used to knit the swatch, crochet hook smaller than the needles used to knit the swatch, yarn needle, yarn used to knit the swatch, a couple of yards of yarn smaller than swatch yarn in a contrast color (sock yarn is ideal), sharp scissors to cut the steek, a strip of scrap paper 6" x 3" we’ll use to protect the back side of the knitting while cutting, sample buttons you might use for a steeked project (optional).
