Class Details:

This class is in a one-hour lecture format. There will be time for Q&A at the end but no hands-on attention.

Do you really know where your yarn comes from? We know Merino is a breed of sheep, or do we? But let’s meet other breeds of sheep and how their wool is different! Your yarn says “angora”—is that the goat or the rabbit? What is the difference between llama and alpaca fiber? And don't they spit? In this entertaining and educational visual lecture, you can get the answers to all of these questions, as well as answers to questions you didn’t even know you had, while meeting all of these animals, exploring their fibers and the lifestyle of fiber farming. Fiber, fur, wool and mohair are the by-products from the animals we raise here at Long Island Yarn and Farm. Our mission is to put a face with these fibers, and through the yarns that are knit with and the garments that are made, we aim to connect people to the animals we love.
