Class Details:

Learn the ins and outs of creating the popular End-less Squares Blanket, a relaxing, no-sew, scrap-busting blanket using all your leftover fingering weight yarn bits!

You know that basket of small skeins, too large to toss, from making all those beautiful shawls and socks? This is the perfect modular project to put them to good use! The pattern is designed for knitters who (like me) love the scrappy-patchy look of leftover blankets, but know that all those lovely squares would forever sit in a basket under the bed, waiting to be joined. Yep, that’s totally me. The End-less Squares Blanket uses a modular, join-as-you-go construction, and even eliminates countless ends to weave in later. Plus each time you finish a square, it gives you that instant gratification feel of having completed something!

In class we will work on a mini four-square block, detailing all the different techniques used in the full-size blanket pattern: How to create left and right moving blocks, foundation row and how to add left and right moving rows, end splicing, sequential join as you go, and the unusual left and right pick up of stitches. After class, you have all the tools to knit the full-size blanket. The pattern is designed to be versatile, so even if you pick one size initially, say the baby blanket size, and then later want to add on, either just more rows, or make it wider and longer, it’s all possible!

Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, increase/decrease, have knit a few accessories

Homework:

With US 2 (2.75mm) needle (or needle size that gives you a nice garter stitch texture of 28 sts=4”) and one of your fingering-weight yarn scraps cast on 20 sts using a long-tail cast on. Use either DPNs or circular needles.

Supplies for Class:

Knitting needles US 2 (2.75mm) or size to obtain gauge of roughly 28sts over garter stitch. Use circular needles or DPNs. Fingering-weight yarn scraps, 4 pieces of less than 10g/ 50 yards, ideally in 2 to 4 colors. Dig out that basket of fingering weightscraps! We will only need small amounts for the class project, but have them handy as inspiration!
