Many years ago you might have heard Lucy announce that despite loving double knitting, she was never going to knit anything larger than a potholder. But for the last thirteen years, center-out double knit blankets have become her passion. Her first double-knit blanket was rectangular (with its attendant challenges). Then nearly ten years later she began a series of octagonal blankets. JC Briar’s extraordinary charting system, Stitch-maps, opened the doors to far more extravagant designs and now Lucy averages one a year (they are large). She has had several experiments to achieve a square blanket and now has finally cracked the formula. Join Lucy for a discussion on circular and tubular cast-ons for double knitting and a look at charting and pattern writing.
