Class Details:
Get out of your knitting rut by trading out tired techniques for inside tricks that will streamline some of our least favorite parts of the knitting process. Learn a unique method for weaving-in ends as you go, closing live stitches without using Kitchener, working picture-perfect buttonholes, and more! Use these tricks for sweaters, socks, hats and mittens. Why do things the hard way when there’s a better (easier!) way? You’ll learn: • An alternative to Kitchener stitch for closing live stitches (and several fun applications for using it) • Sleek, strong buttonholes that work well and look great • A risk-free trick for weaving-in ends as you go without adding bulk • Techniques for afterthought pockets that you can add to almost anything Technique Requirements: Knit/purl; cast on/bind off; increase/decrease; working in the round; have finished a few accessories; basic finishing techniques; we will use a crochet hook for a simple technique that does not require prior crochet experience, although if you are comfortable holding and using a crochet hook, it can help.
Homework:

With US Size 6/4.5mm circular needle cast on 28 st and work flat in garter stitch (knitting every row) for 6 rows. Then continue in stockinette stitch for 4 in/10 cm. Do not bind off. Cut working yarn, leaving a 10 in/25 cm tail and leave stitches on needle or stitch holder until class. Bring this same yarn to use in class for the techniques.

Supplies for Class:

• Approx 20 yards DK or light worsted weight yarn (the same yarn as used for homework) • US Size 6/4.5mm needles (DPN or circular) • Size E/3.5mm crochet hook • Please bring your standard knitting notions Please also bring a pen/pencil and paper to take notes.
