Class Details:
If you’ve ever wondered how to work those charts on holiday stockings, or hanker for a ’90s-style picture sweater revival, this class is for you! We’ll avoid over-twisted yarns and tangled bobbins by combining both color techniques for a fun and buckle-free result using an entertaining mitten project as our example. Inspired by the Cowichan style of carrying yarn behind intarsia elements, you’ll quickly “catch” on and leave class ready for Santa or your own flying dragon extravaganza. Technique Requirements: knit/purl; cast on/bind off; increase/decrease; working in the round; easy colorwork
Homework:

Mittens should be knit using a worsted-weight yarn and a set of dpns or a pair of circulars to work your yarn to a gauge of 20 sts to 4"/10 cms FLAT. See supplies for more information. Homework instruction is given for the adult size, but if you would like to make the child size, that number is in parentheses. Using needles one size smaller than the needles that achieve gauge and the main color yarn, CO 40 (32) sts; distribute sts across needles as you prefer, place marker and join to work in the round, taking care not to twist. Set-up round: [k2, p2] around. Work 2 by 2 rib as established for 15 (8) rounds total. Bring to class.

Supplies for Class:

You are welcome to come to class to just explore with whatever amount of yarn you have in your stash, but in case you would like to start in on the full pair of mittens, you will require 150 (120) yards of main color yarn, and about 10 yards each of 5 contrast colors. Please bring to class your homework still on the needles along with the rest of the main color yarn. Also bring needles that achieve the recommended gauge of 5 stitches to the inch, two stitch markers, the 5 (or more) bits of contrast yarns, and a yarn needle.
