Class Details:

The Faroese islands are comprised by eighteen rocky, volcanic islands between Iceland and Norway in the North Atlantic Ocean. A part of the kingdom of Denmark, it is a self-governing archipelago. The lacy Faroese shawls from the region feature unique shaping that helps keep the shawls on the shoulders. Instead of a more familiar triangular, rectangular, or circular shape, Faroese shawls are shaped like butterfly wings. Some have very long ends so they can be tied around the wearer's waist for extra warmth. The most distinguishing characteristic of Faroese shawls is the center back gusset shaping. Each shawl consists of two triangular side panels, a trapezoid-shaped back gusset, an edge treatment, and usually shoulder shaping. Learn how to work these from the bottom up as well as from the top down using miniature samples in class. See the lace pattern possibilities to incorporate them into the shawls.

Technique Requirements: Must be able to read charts and be familiar with lace.
