Class Details:

This is a two-part class. Both sections of the class will automatically be placed in your cart when you select one of the sessions.

Be prepared to be inspired by this unique stitch that puts texture and color into your knitting. Much like a bas-relief sculptural technique for knitters, the result is an exciting yet subtle and elegant surface texture when it is worked in one color, and a bold, arresting pattern when worked in two or more. In class you’ll explore the basic technique, its variations, and the theory that underpins them. You’ll learn how to chart the stitch and we’ll discuss both yarn choice and how and where to use the stitch to showcase its effects and enhance your handknits.

In class you’ll practice the stitch and its variations, creating a reference sampler of the basic stitch and several of its two-color variations, giving you a head start on your own adventure with it. This class explores in depth the material presented in Catherine’s Virtual Knitting LIVE class of the same name offered in 2021 and 2022.

Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, chart reading, easy colorwork, a basic understanding of the structure of knitted fabric; comfortable with basic stitch manipulations such as slipping, twisting, knitting through the back of the loop

Homework:

None, but be prepared to knit.

Supplies to Bring:

Approximately 75 yards each of two easy-to-read, contrasting solid colors of a smooth, light sport-weight yarn; the needles needed to get gauge with this yarn and needles one and two sizes larger than the gauge needle. Please note that yarn choice is critical for this stitch: do not use roving or novelty, bouclé or tweed yarn.
