Class Details:

Ah, the humble cast-on. The foundation for all things knitted. The building block upon which every project, no matter how big or small, is built. So, no pressure to pick which one to use, right? In this class, we’ll practice four of the most essential cast-ons, and talk about when and why you might use each one, and what projects they best go with.

Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off

Homework:

None

Supplies to Bring:

• 4 separate balls of light-colored, smooth worsted-weight yarn, at least 10 yards in each. (This will let you keep each cast-on live so you can continue knitting on it. If preferred, you can alternately work from one ball of yarn and break it between trying each cast-on.)
• US 8 circular needles, 32–60" in length. (This length will let you slide each cast on onto the circular so that you can keep knitting them later if you choose.)
• Crochet hook of any size
• An additional waste yarn, light-colored smooth worsted weight, approximately 5 yards
