Are you interested in trying your hand at a Japanese knitting pattern that doesn’t have a translation? Japanese patterns are presented in a graphic format, with drawings and charts that knitters can decipher without knowing the language. In this two-hour class, we cover the basics of understanding such a pattern. You’ll learn where to find important information such as gauge, needle size and shaping. You’ll also learn a few key vocabulary words and basic stitch symbols. We’ll discuss where to get help when you encounter something unfamiliar. If time permits, we’ll practice a swatch to strengthen your chart-reading skills.

Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, increase/decrease, working in the round, chart reading, have knit a whole garment, basic finishing techniques, advanced finishing techniques, MUST be comfortable knitting from charts
