Class Details:

Have you ever wanted to design yourself a custom-fit Hat? Are you curious about Hat fit, and what exactly slouch is? In this class Woolly will guide you through the basics for 2 Hat styles—beanie and slouch—knit vertically, worked from the bottom up. You’ll learn about measuring your head, negative ease, how much slouch is enough, and more. Participants will then design themselves a Hat based on their own measurements. Simple stitch patterns can also be used to add style and decoration to the Hat.

Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, increase/decrease, working in the round, have knit a few accessories, basic finishing techniques

Homework:

Students will need to prepare a gauge swatch for their yarn, as the calculations in this workshop will be based on this. In the absence of a gauge swatch, we will use the ball band suggested gauge, however this may not be as accurate.

Supplies to Bring:

• Calculator
• Tape measure
• 5mm to 6mm DPNs or 40cm circular needles
• 100g of yarn in gauge to match needles (large gauge & needles preferred, due to time constraints!)
• If students have any stitch dictionaries, they are welcome to bring them
