Class Details:

Embellishments can contribute to the creation of couture-level fabrications, add personality or whimsy to a textile, or simply bring an additional layer of depth. The anatomy of knitted fabric lends itself particularly well to embellishment and adornment, and the composition of knitted stitches can indicate which areas might be highlighted through decoration. In this machine knitting class, students will explore and discover a range of eye-catching methods that can be completed on a single-bed knitting machine. The instructor will have numerous inspiring fabrications that cover a range of techniques. Demonstrations will be carried out on a standard-gauge single bed knitting machine. Students are welcome to keep pace with the demonstrations on their own machines, or focus on watching the methods for inspiration purposes.

Technique Requirements: basic machine knitting skills such as using a transfer tool, casting on and binding off

Homework:

None

Supplies for Class:

• Single bed machine (if using) and a few different colors of yarn in a weight suitable for your machine
• Additional materials to play with: different types of yarn for knit-weaving (mix of textures and weights), seed beads (size 6/0 or smaller for the standard-gauge) and a crochet hook fine enough to fit through the bead hole, ruler or strip of cardboard
