So you’ve mastered two-color brioche rib. What next? Increases and decreases with the Deep End Hat or Cowl! You’ll learn most of the increases and decreases on the first patterning round, and then have lots of relaxing brioche rib before the next increases and decreases. We will learn and practice double and quadruple increases, left- and right-leaning double decreases, and get an introduction to quadruple decreases. We’ll also learn more about reading your brioche knitting and fixing more mistakes.
Technique Requirements: Knit/purl, cast on/bind off, working in the round, know how to work 2 color brioche rib. This is not a beginning brioche class.
See your chosen pattern and choose the size you want to knit. Cast on with DC and work through Setup Rnd 4 for Deep End Hat (this is just plain brioche rib), or work through the Setup Round for the Deep End Cowl or Madrona Cowl.
For Deep End Cowl or Madrona Cowl, here’s a bit of extra homework after the setup rnd:
Rnd 1 (LC): *Brk, sl1yo; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 2 (DC): *Sl1yo, brp; rep from * to end of rnd.
This tiny bit of 2 color brioche rib will make it easier for you to see your increases and decreases when we get started. For all of these projects, come to class ready to begin the first patterning round (the first round with increases and decreases).
One light-colored and one dark-colored worsted-weight yarn, 125 yards each (example: Malabrigo Rios), 16" US 6 circular needle for hat, or 24” US 6 circular needle for cowl, stitch markers. A row counter is helpful, too.
