Class Details:
The finishing process is as important as the knitting—it can make the difference between knits that look OK and knits that look truly polished. Take your knitting to the next level by learning a variety of finishing skills and other tips and tricks. Please note there will be a bit of knitting homework prior to class. Your will learn how to: • Invisibly seam your knits, both along vertical and horizontal edges • Expertly weave in ends in different stitch textures • Pick up stitches along both vertical and horizontal edges (for collars, button bands, sock gussets, etc.) • Work different methods of provisional cast-on • Work a three-needle bind-off and Kitchener stitch • And more, time permitting! Technique Requirements: Must be very comfortable with basics (knitting, purling, increasing decreasing)
Homework:
Please knit 3 squares in the following fashion: Using light-colored, smooth, worsted-weight yarn (example: Berroco Ultra Wool) and US7 needles, cast on 25 stitches. Knit in stockinette stitch until you have a square. It should measure approx 5 x 5 inches. With the first 2 squares, bind off in pattern. With the 3rd square, do not bind off. End having worked a right side row. Slip your live stitches onto scrap yarn or a stitch holder. Cut yarn, leaving a tail.
Supplies for Class:
US7 knitting needles, more of the yarn you used for the squares, worsted-weight yarn in a contrasting color, a darning needle (I prefer metal bent-tip ones, but you can bring whichever kind you like), a 4.5 mm crochet hook, sharp scissors, pen and paper for notes
