Class Details:
The bust alters not only the width but also the front length and of a garment, and needs to be considered not only in form fitting garments but loose and boxy styled tops as well. Have you ever seen flowy garments being too short in the front, or see fitted garments pucker at the armholes or droop off the shoulders? Learn why and what to do about it in this hands-on workshop! Participants will learn how to determine vertical and horizontal shaping for their knitted garments for a better fit over the bust area. Using a sample pattern provided, we will learn to pick the proper pattern size, pinpoint 3 focus areas for our adjustments, determine the spots that need to be altered and why, and learn 4 ways to adjusting the pattern to fit the individual body. Simone will also share her simplified formula to use as a jump of point for more individual adjustments. Yarn choices and how they can affect the adjustments we are making will be touched on as well. Techniques covered: • measurements and selecting the proper size to make • horizontal darts and how to determine where they go • vertical darts/princess darts and side seam increases and how to place them • non tailored overall increases for a more casual look and how to space them properly • short-row shaping and style considerations Technique Requirements: Knit/purl; cast on/bind off; increase/decrease; working in the round; have knit a whole garment; have knit a few accessories
