Class Details:
Have you ever wanted to try your hand at creating a yarn that is truly your own? I’d love to teach you how with a simple tool, the drop spindle, and a bit of fluffy fiber! This First Steps class is a hands-on, learn-as-you-go workshop for beginners with a relaxed atmosphere to learn, practice, repeat. You’ll receive all required supplies, including your own drop spindle and buttery fiber to practice and play with in class. Let’s learn the basics of fiber formats like roving and top, discuss the parts of the spindle and how they are used to create single- and 2-ply yarns, then learn about and try the simple park and draft method to go from fluff to handspun stuff! I’ll share my experiences as a beginning spinner and help you troubleshoot common issues. You’ll learn practical fixes, and we’ll focus on forming good spinning habits for your body and your budget. Then you’ll take home your own handspun yarn! This class is appropriate for any level beginner and easily accommodates those with moderate to high physical mobility.
