Class Details:
Pull together some worsted weight yarn (preferably 100% wool) to make a beautiful colorwork sampler hat in class. We will work on and go over the corrugated rib, the Latvian braid (both of which can be added to your hat if you wish) and we'll go in-depth on two-handed plus a few other colorwork techniques during class. Susan provides lots of guidance through camera-projected demonstrations and lots of individual attention during class. Students are walked through the skills and techniques. Best of all everyone succeeds! Students are provided a sampler hat pattern with a variety of simple charts. Lots of options and examples and tips and tricks for success will be shared in class to help you with your colorwork hat adventure! You will leave a much more confident colorwork knitter. Technique Requirements: knit/purl; cast on/bind off; increase/decrease; working in the round; chart reading; easy colorwork
Homework:
Check your gauge and select the size hat you would like to work on during class. Bring appropriate yarn and materials to class. One hint is that the smaller the hat, the more you will get done during class but this is up to you! On occasion I’ve had some almost finish an entire small-size baby hat during class.
Supplies for Class:
Sizes: 0-6 months (6-12 months, 1-2 years, child, small adult, medium adult, large adult). 13 (14, 16, 18, 20, 22) inches in circumference Size Note: When selecting a size, I prefer my hats to have 1-2 inches of negative ease so they fit snugly on the head but this is up to you and your preference. Please note that the stranded colorwork, braids and corrugated rib can make the hat less stretchy. The sample in the photo uses Barrett Wool Co. Wisconsin Woolen Spun Worsted wool. Yarn: Worsted weight wool Main color (MC): 100 yards for the first 3 sizes (150-200 yards for the last 3 sizes) Contrast color (CC): 50 yards for the first 3 sizes (100 yards for the last 3 sizes) Bring more colors if you like! Suggested needles: US 5 (for brim) and US 6 (for body of hat) 16-inch circular, and double-pointed needles or another technique for working in the round. Gauge: 5.5 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch for the body of the hat. Note: This class is perfect for first time colorwork knitters! Tools: Yarn needle Stitch markers Scissors
