Class Details:
Brioche insertions (combining brioche knitting with stockinette stitch, a colorful lovechild of brioche, intarsia, and stockinette knitting), as used in Simone’s Vitamin B sweater, is a novel technique for creating decorative texture and delineated brioche segments in select locations of your knitting, as opposed to working it over an entire row. In this workshop you will learn all the techniques to master brioche insertions (used in Kien Fora, Vitamin B, the B-Train hat, and others). As an entry point into understanding this unique approach, you’ll create a swatch to practice how to work this new technique. Learn how to handle the 2 colors of yarn in a brioche insertion, work the technique both on the right and wrong sides of the fabric, tension your yarn, and learn about growing and diminishing brioche insertions. We will also touch on color and yarn choices that will work best, and you are welcome to bring your yarn choices to class. We will look at a few examples and discuss what to look for and how to pair your stash yarn! Technique Requirements: Knit/purl, cast on/bind off; have knit a few accessories; This is NOT a beginner Brioche class: Students should be familiar with two-color brioche knitting.
