Class Details:
Have you ever looked wistfully at all those lightweight lacey shawls but convinced yourself you’ll never complete anything THAT fine. Ever! Well this could be the class for you. During this class students will learn how to create a simple triangular shawl using combinations of knit, purl, yarn overs, and k2tog/ssk decreases. Because we’ll be working in a heavier weight yarn on bigger needles, the project grows much faster than traditional lace shawls and, as an added bonus, the difference in scale adds a modern, funky edge to the project. We’ll be looking at different edge finishes, adding in a simple charted lace motif, using the correct bind off, and how to block the shawl once it’s off the needles. Students will cast on the project on the day and complete it on your own time and at your own pace. Having completed it, you'll be equipped with the basic skills needed to tackle a traditional lace weight shawl. Technique Requirements: knit/purl; cast on/bind off; increase/decrease; beginner lace; chart reading; have knit a few accessories
