Class Details:
In this class we will get our toes (yarn) wet and discover the basics of natural dyeing. From understanding whole dye plant material to extracts, mordants, and pH, you will walk away from the dye pots feeling confident you can do it on your own at home. We will discuss a simple history and the vocabulary associated with natural dyeing, different types of fiber and their role in the dying process, and the basic tools needed. We will use whole plant dye material to create an array of colors while dyeing mini skeins of yarn. We will touch on what extracts are, how to plan dyeing for a certain project, as well as caring for your natural colors. No prior experience needed, just a love of natural colour!
