Class Details:
Many crocheters are bewildered by crochet patterns, charts, and symbols. Don't be intimidated; it's much easier than you think! In this class we'll begin by reviewing the basic stitches you already know, then explore the meaning of asterisks, brackets, parentheses, and abbreviations when reading instructions. We'll also be looking at stitch diagrams and how to understand all the information they contain. You'll be a champion pattern reader by the end of class! Technique Requirements: It is IMPERATIVE that you already be familiar with the basic crochet stitches, and can perform them without additional help. This class will build on that knowledge by expanding your skills in pattern reading, and will not be about the basics of crocheting individual stitches. Before you sign up for this class, ensure that you: 1. Are comfortable holding yarn and hook and working single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet stitches. 2. Are able to count stitches and work several rows while maintaining the number of stitches. 3. Have some familiarity with simple crochet instructions. 4. Have completed at least one simple project, such as a potholder or baby blanket. We will not have time in class to teach the basic stitches; do not sign up if you want to learn them. (The event's Beginner Lounge is a better place for such instruction.)
Homework:
None
Supplies for Class:
Worsted-weight, smooth yarn (NO bumpy strands), one that allows you to really see your stitches. Bring hooks that are on the large size for this weight of yarn (about 1-2 sizes larger); check the yarn's ball band or ask at a yarn shop. Suggested hook size is K/6.5mm or L/8mm.
