Cocktail Reception featuring Jade Starmore
Friday 7:00–9:00 PM

Join your fellow attendees for the exclusive launch of Alice Starmore's wondrous new book, Glamourie.

Glamourie, named for the Scottish term for magic, stretches the boundaries of what can be achieved with hand knitting, presenting fanciful and intricate outfits inspired by stories from ancient Gaelic folklore. Photographer Jade Starmore (Alice’s daughter) provides luscious, full-color images of the elaborate costumes—as well as her retellings of the traditional tales—including nine panoramic gatefolds, all staged in remote and romantic Hebridean locations.

Dover Publications, the publisher of Glamourie, is honored to be hosting the cocktail reception. Jade Starmore will keynote at the Cocktail Reception and will be available to sign copies of Glamourie for attendees.

Jade was born and brought up on the Hebridean island of Lewis. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a BA (with honors) first class in Communication Design and an MDes in Fashion & Textiles and is a professional photographer and textile designer.

She is also a graphic designer involved in book and website design and is co-founder and creative director of Virtual Yarns, which features her photography, styling and knitwear designs.

Over the past three years she has worked alongside her mother Alice to create their latest collaboration, Glamourie. Jade wrote the stories that inspired the highly conceptual costumes and designs in the book. She was also responsible for the styling, which involved creating fabric designs and then designing and making the garments to partner the knitwear.  She designed and knitted one of the costumes and its variant design and was the artist for the book’s technical chapter. She organised and undertook all of the photography for the book, which took place on the Isles of Lewis and Harris over a period of three years. She will be speaking at Vogue Knitting Live about the making of Glamourie, the styling, storytelling and photography, and about the spectacular knitted costumes and designs contained therein.

Tickets for the Cocktail Reception are only available with the purchase of the Big Apple Weekender or 5th Avenue Getaway Packages.
