Class Details:
Journey far beyond swatching just for gauge! Join passionate knitter/designer Deborah Newton to go beyond just “getting the gauge”! Deborah shows how making a swatch can actually be FUN—a rewarding end in itself. Learn how to engage in a course of enjoyable knitting that will both surprise and delight you. Deborah will bring a large collection of some of her swatches. You too can learn to enjoy knitting in small pieces for big rewards! * Experiment with fiber and yarn—develop successful combinations, using your stash! * Learn how to combine pattern stitches—what works, what doesn’t! * Try garment shaping in shorthand mode! * Learn easy approaches to knitting techniques that you were afraid to try! A swatch tells the story of the sweater to come—bring out your inner designer!
Homework:
1. Bring three different yarns from your stash that are very different. You can match colors—or contrast. Bring some yarn that you really like! 2. Knit one textured swatch, roughly 6" x 6" or near that, in a pattern stitch of your choice, in a needle that makes a fabric you like. Don’t bind off—leave the sts on your needle. Don’t fret about which pattern to choose—just pick a simple knit/purl pattern (like a basketweave!) or a simple all-over lace or cable pattern. Something that appeals to you!
Supplies for Class:
Homework swatches, yarn, and a variety of needle sizes ones that work for the yarns you have chosen for class.
