Class Details:

Seams provide stability and structure to a garment while also allowing us to understand how even seamless garments are constructed. Seaming is a skill that can be developed over time, but the basics are grounded in mattress stitch. This invisible seaming technique allows any two pieces of knitted fabric to be attached using a variety of stitch allowances. The nature of seaming works best with selvedge stitches to function as the stitch allowance, and this class incorporates how to add selvedge stitches to any pattern as part of the learning experience, and a host of tips to make seaming the smooth and easy process it is meant to be. After this class you will be prepared for many different seaming adventures, as mattress stitch is an endlessly useful tool in your skillset as a knitter.

Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off

Homework:

Two swatches of 26 stitches and 40 rows consisting of ten rows of ribbing and 30 rows of stockinette must be completed for this class. Swatches can be knit with any yarn and needle size recommended for the yarn, but DK (8-ply) yarn with a 3.75mm (US 5) needle for ribbed rows and 4mm (US 6) needle for stockinette fabric produces the easiest working experience with a minimal amount of time for the knitter. Supplies for Class:

50g of yarn for swatches, appropriate needles for yarn used, tapestry needles, 10g of contrasting-color yarn for seaming, 10 locking stitch markers, seaming clips (optional).
