Class Details:

This class is all about taking your shawl knitting to the next level, covering four different shawl edgings: a sleek I-cord bond-off; a fun picot edge; a bobble edge; and a simple knitted-on triangular edge.

By the end of the class each student will have created four cute mini shawls, all finished differently. They’ll also have the skills to be able to work out how to add any of the four edgings to other shawl patterns. The class’ comprehensive handout can be used afterward by students to create their own bespoke shawls.

Plus we’ll chat about washing and blocking shawls, and there'll be lots of shawl knitting tips and tricks, too!

Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, increase/decrease, chart reading, have knit a few accessories, some previous experience of knitting shawls is helpful (especially a garter tab cast on)

Homework:

Full instructions will be provided before the workshop to enable attendees to knit the main part of the four mini shawls before the class in the handout, available the week of class. Click here to download

2 colors of DK- or worsted-weight yarn (approx. 50g each; this includes yarn needed for homework), 4.5 mm / US 7 circular needle (80 cm / 32” length), lockable stitch markers, waste yarn, tapestry needle.
