Learn how to knit a little-known Lithuanian accessory, the beautiful beaded wrist warmers known as riešinės.
Following in the nineteenth- and twentieth-century tradition of knitting wrist warmers for warmth, the Lithuanians also made intricately beaded warmers to wear on festive occasions. André introduces this special tradition as you learn:
• suitable materials for this type of work
• different techniques for stringing beads
• how to read the traditional riešinės charts
• how to knit with beads, with one or more colors
• finishing (seaming, borders, etc.).
Technique Requirements: The students need to know the basics (knit, purl) and be willing to work with very fine needles and yarn.

• 150 yards each of 3 colors of 2-ply, light fingering yarn in bright red, bright green, and black (or very dark blue; or colors of your choice) (for example: Cascade 220 fingering)
• US 000 or US 00 knitting needles (preferably two 8" dpns)
• Size 8 (3mm) glass beads: approximately 500 each in white, red, and light blue (or three contrasting colors of your choice)
