Class Details:

Explore two of the most critical aspects of garment fabrication: casting on and ribbing. Learn how to create perfect beginnings for your projects; gain a better understanding of rib and its idiosyncrasies; explore a few alternatives to rib; and get to know Catherine’s unique tubular edge cast-on. The handout will contain directions for all of the techniques discussed, which you will sample during the class session.


Technique Requirements: knit/purl, a basic understanding of the structure of knitted fabric; able to identify knit and purl stitches on both the right and wrong sides of knitted fabric; comfortable with basic stitch manipulations such as slipping, twisting, knitting through the back of the loop; familiar with traditional knit long-tail cast-on, able to execute open running thread increases.



Supplies for Class:

Please have with you approximately 30 to 50 yards of DK-weight yarn in a medium or light color and approximately 5 yards of fingering weight yarn in a color that contrasts with the DK weight. Both of these yarns should be a solid color, not variegated, novelty, boucle, or roving. You will need needles size 3–6 US (3.25–4 mm).
