Class Details:

Mittens are cozy items to knit for yourself or as gifts. Making it extra personal by adding your own designs to it. This class will guide you through designing a pair of mittens of your own.

Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, increase/decrease, working in the round, easy colorwork, basic finishing techniques

Homework:

Make a swatch with the yarn(s) big enough to measure gauge. Make the swatch in the type of stitches you want to design with (for example: make a swatch in simple colorwork if you intend to design with colorwork; make the swatch with simple cables, if you intend to design in cables). The swatch does not have to be in exactly the same motifs/chart as what you will be designing.

With either one of the yarns, CO 40 sts, join in round.
Next round: [k1, p1] to end.
Rep last round for 4 more rounds.
Leave stitches on needle to be continued in class.

Supplies for Class:

2 balls of worsted-weight yarn of different colors.
Needles of for the yarn in your preferred way to work small round (1 circular for magic loop, or 2 circulars for 2 needles method, or a set of DPN).
Printout the graphs from the class handout.
Pencil for charting.
4 or more charts you want to work with, it can be your own or from a knitting dictionary (can be colorwork charts, texture stitches, or other singular motifs)
