Do you have a small frame loom and want a simple and quick project to work on? In this 2-class series we will work to design and create woven coasters using a few basic stitches. This class is perfect for the beginner weaver and will allow time to work through all the steps together from beginning to end. Grab some fun summer colors and join me!
Part 1: In the first 2-hour class we will start from the basics. We will warp our looms together to set up for our coasters. Single and double warping techniques will be discussed and demonstrated. Demonstration and design using the interlocking weaving technique will be used to create unique coaster designs. Students may choose to warp and work on up to 2 coaster designs during this class.
Part 2: In the second 2-hour class we will focus on completing our coasters. The blanket hem stitch will be demonstrated and used to finish the coasters. Different ways of styling will be discussed as well as alternative knotting and tucking techniques. Students will take their coasters off the loom during this class and have a finished coaster!
Note: This class will work step by step from material review, warping the loom, to finishing techniques. No previous experience is required. Knowledge of basic weaving terminology is helpful but not necessary.
No homework for part 1, but after part 1 you'll need to finish at least one coaster finished up to the hemline (as we will discuss in part 1).
