Shaggy Bear Farms is a small family farm that strives to promote and preserve the rare, endangered and lesser-known fiber breeds inhabiting our planet. We are located in the small town of Scio, Oregon. We currently raise 44 different breeds of fiber animals strictly for their fleeces.
We pride ourselves on being a source of “farm to needle” yarns and fiber for spinning. We are a “forever farm” and frequently serve as a “farm sanctuary and rescue space” for animals needing a new home.
We are proud participants in the Livestock Conservancy’s “Shave ‘Em to Save ‘Em” program and offer yarns, rovings, and other fiber products from the numerous breeds we raise.
At Shaggy Bear Farms, we believe that humans have inherited a rich variety of livestock breeds. The loss of these breeds would deter the use of these unique fibers, degrade the diversity of the species, and diminish the human spirit.
Please come and explore how very different fibers can be. Merino is truly wonderful but there is so, so much more out there to enjoy!
