Class Details:
Fringe is a classic border for any scarf or shawl, but it is so often an afterthought. Up your fringe game and try some new techniques to add fringe anywhere in your knitting or make your fringed edges better with cleaner knotted fringe, twisted fringe, and diamond fringe. Technique Requirements: Knit/purl; cast on/bind off; increase/decrease; have knit a few accessories; basic finishing techniques
Homework:
Make two swatches as follows. Swatch 1: Furry Fringe Using fingering-weight yarn and size 5/3.75mm needles, cast on 25 stitches. Row A: *K1, P1, repeat from * to last stitch. Slip 1 stitch with yarn in front. Work Row A 18 more times. Row B: Knit to last stitch, slip 1 stitch with yarn in front. Row C: Purl to last stitch, slip 1 stitch with yarn in front. Work Rows B and C 2 more times. Work Row B twice in a row to create a ridge of garter stitch. Work Rows B and C one last time. Bind off. Swatch 2: Funky Fringe Using worsted weight yarn on size 8/5mm needles, cast on 29 stitches. Row A: Knit to last stitch, slip 1 stitch with yarn in front. Row B: K4, slip 1 stitch with yarn in front, knit to last stitch, slip 1 stitch with yarn in front. Work rows A and B 10 more times. Bind off.
Supplies for Class:
At least 1 skein each of worsted- and fingering-weight yarn, needles to match, your homework swatches, crochet hook to match yarn, and scissors or a rotary cutter with a small self-healing mat.
