Class Details:
Are you collecting mini skeins and you’re not sure what to do with them other than making a scrappy blanket? Then this class is for you! Grab a few mini skeins and come to class ready to learn some new tricks and tips for working with small skeins on mini projects. Students will select a mini project to work on during class. The patterns for a mini sock, mini mittens, mini fish, and a mini top-down sweater will be provided to the students. All of these projects are between 2 and 4 inches (5 and 10 cm) in size. The class will include large group discussion, small group demonstrations, and individual attention. Tricks and tips taught in class will include things like how to wind your mini skeins into usable balls, how to create pretty mini skeins from your leftovers, the best way to cast a small number of stitches on double-pointed needles, getting rid of those pesky ladders for good, a Kitchener stitch tip so you’ll never forget again, toy-knitting tips, picking up a sock gusset, and a few top-down sweater tips. It’s a fun mix of topics that you can use on your not-so-mini projects, too! You will leave class a confident mini knitter. Technique Requirements: Students must be self-sufficient and able to work in the round on a small number of stitches on double-pointed needles (using an alternative method, like magic loop, is just fine; however, note that the patterns used in the class are written for double-pointed needles so if another method is used the student should be able to make adaptations independently).
Homework:
Please come to class with your mini skeins and needles ready to go!
Supplies for Class:
3 mini skeins in fingering-weight or sock-weight yarn. Each mini skein should weigh at least 10 grams. US size 1-3 double-pointed needles (or needles for alternative method for working in the round). Important Yarn information: Please note that all of these projects can be knit in heavier weight yarn with larger needles. If you prefer to work with a heavier weight yarn, like a worsted weight, bring the appropriate size needles to go with your yarn. For a worsted weight I recommend a US size 7, for example. For heavier weight yarns like sport, dk or worsted, bring 50 yards or so! Notions: scissors, yarn needle, ruler or tape measure, detachable stitch markers.
