The perfect edge treatment can make or break a design. In this workshop, join Melissa and explore several exciting knitted borders, from lace to waves to cables and more! Technique Requirements: Knit/purl; cast on/bind off; increase/decrease; beginner lace; chart reading
Homework:
#1: With smooth worsted weight yarn and size 8 needles, cast on 21 sts. Slip sts onto a holder, leaving approximately 15 yds of yarn attached. #2: Notes • Right Twist = Slip next st onto cn and hold in back; k1; k1 from cn OR k2tog, leaving them on LH needle; insert point of RH needle between these 2 sts and k the first one again • Right Cross Cable = Slip the next 2 sts onto cn and hold in back; k2; k2 from cn • Left Cross Cable = Slip the next 2 sts onto cn and hold in front; k2; k2 from cn With smooth worsted weight yarn and size 8 needles, cast on 28 sts. Row 1 (RS): Slip st purlwise, p2, Right Twist (see Notes), p2, [Right Cross Cable (see Notes)] twice, k2, p2, Right Twist, k7. Row 2: P9, k2, p10, k2, p2, k3. Row 3: Slip st purlwise, p2, Right Twist (see Notes), p2, k2, [Left Cross Cable] twice, p2, Right Twist, k7. Row 4: As Row 2. Repeat Rows 1-4 until the piece measures approximately 5" from the beginning, ending after WS row. Slip sts onto a holder, leaving a couple of yds of yarn still attached. #3: With smooth worsted weight yarn and size 8 needles, cast on 33 sts. Slip sts onto a holder, leaving approximately 20 yds of yarn still attached.
Supplies for Class:
Three homework pieces with the yarn still attached; additional worsted weight yarn in light colors, approximately 50 yds; size 8 (5 mm) knitting needles; double-pointed knitting needle, size 6 or 7; sticky notes (such as Post It™ Notes); scissors.
