Class Details:

Turn Excel into your assistant while you design any kind of hat! Choose your yarn and gauge to make a hat that you will love. In this class you will learn to organize Excel tables that reflect your thought process in designing a hat step-by-step. You will be given an Excel file with an example of such table. You will be able to add other sizes from baby to adult, if you need it. Standard measurements will be provided.

During this class you will:
1. Set up a gauge table
2. Design a beanie in Stockinette
3. Design a simple cable beanie based on the first hat
4. Calculate hat brim and body stitch counts
5. Work through the crown
6. Have an idea of some modifications of the pattern

You can use a copy of the workbook for a different hat, and most of the work will be done for you.

Disclosure: This class intended to be an example of how to design a hat. Every hat is different and there is no one recipe for all. You will leave the class with general understanding of how to do it on your own with tools learned in class.

Technique Requirements: Must have basic knowledge of Excel spreadsheet and its simple functions

Homework:

Make a 6 x 6 in swatch in Stockinette. Measure a blocked gauge and bring this information to class.

Supplies for Class:

Excel program (any version on Mac or PC). Other programs can be used at your own discretion. Instructor will answer questions on functionality of Excel only.
