Class Details:

Does the thought of taking scissors to your freshly-knit project fill you with dread? Steeking might seem intimidating but there’s no need to fear! In this class, you’ll gain the knowledge you need to confidently snip your knits. Steeking is a useful and versatile skill that no knitter should be without. By taking this class, you’ll learn both the crochet and hand-sewn reinforcement methods of performing a steek. The more times you do it, the less scary it gets! So, armed with your favorite pair of scissors, be prepared to cut your class project to bits!

Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, working in the round, advanced stranded colorwork, beginner crochet.

Homework:

When choosing the yarns, choose a yarn that is non-superwash pure wool or 90% wool blend. Non-animal fibers such as cotton and acrylic are not appropriate for this class. Using worsted-weight yarn and 4.5mm (US 7) DPNs (or long circular needle if using magic loop method), cast on 48 sts using the long-tail cast-on. Place a beginning of round marker and join in the round. Join CC and begin colorwork chart from the class photos. Knit the 2 rounds from the chart once. Cut CC and knit 6 rounds in MC. Join CC and knit the 2 rounds of the colorwork chart a total of 5 times. Bind off all sts in MC with any preferred bind off method, cut yarn, block swatch and bring to class! Abbreviations: CC - contrasting color, MC - main color.

Supplies for Class:

In addition to your homework, please bring 1 fingering weight yarn in a high contrasting color to your homework, crochet hook size G-6 (4mm) or E-4 (3.5mm), a sharp sewing or tapestry needle that you can thread the fingering weight yarn through and your favorite sharp scissors! When choosing the yarn, choose a yarn that is non-superwash pure wool or 90% wool blend. Non-animal fibers such as cotton and acrylic are not appropriate for this class.
