Class Details:

Learn about the simple magic of natural yarns with Ash Alberg of Sunflower Knit. Whether you’re looking to make your knitting and crafting more sustainable, want to know what to do with that skein of “local farm yarn” from that special trip, or are just curious about how to substitute yarns for your favorite patterns, this lecture is for you. By the end of the hour, you’ll know what all yarns have in common, what makes natural yarns special, how to make yarn substitutions for patterns from your favorite designers, how the magic of swatching will help you bring play back into your knitting, and how to take care of your knits to keep them in tip-top shape for years to come. Ash is a natural dyer who works exclusively with Canadian-sourced and milled fibers, as well as a knitwear designer and fibershed advocate who has spent the past several years working exclusively with natural yarns in their patterns. Whether you’re already well-versed in the world of breed-specific/fleece-specific yarns or you’ve just discovered that your yarn actually lists fiber content on the labels, this lecture will have something for you!
