Class Details:
If you’ve mastered knit and purl and fancy adding something a little different to your knitting, you’ll love this technique. Using simple knit and purl combined with yarn overs you’ll be introduced to dipped stitches that, by working through the actual knitting itself, can be used to create exciting surface textures and dense, squishy fabrics. As well as the basics you’ll learn how to read dipped stitch charts for the swatches we’ll be working through, which will hopefully make you confident enough to start exploring your own ideas using this interesting technique. Technique Requirements: knit/purl; chart reading; easy colorwork; experience of yarn overs is handy but not essential
Homework:
None
Supplies for Class:
Needles: Either one pair US size 6 (4.00 mm) single-point needles or US size 6 (4.00 mm) circular needle with short cable for working in rows. As some knitters prefer working on circular needles regardless of project the choice of needles entirely depends on personal preference. Two 50g balls of solid color DK weight wool or wool mix yarns in contrasting colors. Small amounts of solid color fingering weight wool or wool mix yarn for contrast, part balls will do fine. The bounciness of wool or wool mix fibers works particularly well with this technique but bring along your preferred fiber in either weight. Small scissors. A notebook and pen could be handy but is not essential. Charts for the swatches we’ll be exploring will be provided on the day.
