Knitting patterns rely on their own conventions and language to convey information accurately and usually in as few words as possible. Learning to read patterns effectively is a vital part of every knitters education and sweater patterns in particular present a challenge because the scope of what is covered is so large. In this class we will learn how get to the most out of our patterns, to slow down and read for sense and familiarize ourselves with common abbreviations and conventions. Then we’ll take our understanding one step further and learn how to mark up a pattern and if necessary add notes and visual aids to help us better follow what is happening. In addition to the written language of the pattern we will look at sweater schematics to understand what supplementary (and vital!) information they convey. Take your knitting to the next level! This class is lecture/discussion-based; we will not be knitting in class. This class is intended for knitters who have made 0-2 sweaters and are relatively new to sweater knitting.
