Class Details:
If you’ve ever wanted to knit a sock but were thrown by the thought of turning a traditional heel then this is the sock workshop for you. The Afterthought heel means there’s no flap to make and so none of the ‘pick up and knit’ associated with the traditional sock heel. It can be worked with either short rows or regular decreases and for fans of colour work it allows the patterning in the sock’s main body to continue pretty much uninterrupted. In this class we’ll knit a mini sock to learn the basics; from toe up cast on to setting aside heel stitches, then finally working the heel itself. You’ll then have the skills to work on a full size sock in your own time after the class has finished. Technique Requirements: knit/purl; cast on/bind off; increase/decrease; working in the round; knowledge of sock construction; short rows; previous experience of figure of 8 cast-on would be handy but not essential
Homework:
None
Supplies for Class:
100 g of DK weight yarn plus a small amount of contrast coloured waste yarn in the same weight forgetting aside stitches Needles - Circular needle US size 4 length 31½ in (3.50 mm length 80 cm) or if preferred one set of five double pointed needles US 4 size (3.50 mm) Darning needle for grafting stitches Small scissors *Note about the class For the purposes of this class we’ll be working in a heavier weight than would normally be used for a sock. This will allow students to process more quickly than if using a fingering weight sock yarn.
