In this workshop you will learn a special kind of cable. High-relief cables (HRC) are a general improvement for conventional cables and arans. They differ from conventional cables because they are three-dimensional, they keep their shape even after washing and blocking, they are much smoother and neater, they don’t have annoying elongated last stitches, they are warm (excellent for hats, gloves), they are highly visible even when worked with a variegated yarn, and they are reversible, making them a perfect choice for scarves, snoods, shawls, hats, blankets, or shawl collars.

In the theoretical part, the secret behind the HRC will be explained. In the practical part you will learn how to work new cables, how to convert any conventional cable to HRC.

The necessary handouts will be provided.

Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, increase/decrease, cables

For sample 1, cast on 20 sts; work 6 rows in garter stitch: knit all sts; set-up Row 1 (RS): [p4, k4], p4; Row 2 (WS): [k4, p4], k4.

For sample 2, cast on 18 sts; work in double ribbing: Row 1 (RS): [k2, p2], k2; Row 2 (WS): [p2, k2], p2. Repeat rows 1&2 four times - 6 rows of ribbing in total.

Any yarn (DK or worsted weight, preferably in light colors); the needles to match the yarn; one cable needle.
