Class Details:

Knitters spend inordinate amounts of time trying to prevent holes in our fabric. A major exception is when we want to use buttons for closure. Do you want a buttonhole to be invisible when not in use or decorative? This class will show you multiple options, from the simple Eyelet BH, the Barbara Walker 1-row buttonhole, Button Loops, and the magical Anna Zilboorg “Perfect BH,” which includes a unique primer on grafting.

Homework:

Sample is knit with light worsted weight and size 7 US. Smaller size needles are often used for borders, so you may want to have a few sizes available for experimentation.

Swatch 1: for practicing picking up sts to knit a border. Make 2.
CO 10 sts. Work 20 rows stockinette st, bind off. Blocking the rectangle is optional, but will make picking up sts along the edge easier, as it will lay flat.

Swatch 2: for practicing buttonholes without being attached to another swatch.
CO 30 sts. Work 3 or 4 rows in 1x1 ribbing (*k1, p1, rep from * to end).

Supplies for Class:

Worsted-weight yarn and size 6–8 needles are recommended. If you wish to use different weight yarn, bring needles suitable for that weight and 1 or 2 sizes smaller. Yarn needle, scissors, stitch holder or DPN to hold stitches.
