Maria Fernanda Nogueira Gomes, best known as Maria G, lives in the north of Portugal. She learned to knit in the Portuguese style (with the yarn around the neck) when she was 6 years old from her mum and grandma, and she hasn't stopped in the decades since! To her, knitting is like breathing.

After more than 20 years as an economist and data analyst, in 2019 she quit her job and started designing knitwear. She also founded, with a friend, the Knit with Friends Festival, the first yarn festival in Portugal, which began in 2019. In February 2021, she founded Maria’s Knitting Club (an online knitting club) to create a beautiful knitting community around the world and to be able to share her knitting and inspiration with others.
