Class Details:

Is steeking on your knitting bucket list? Why would you knit something in the round to knit a flat object? How can you keep your cut knitting from falling apart? So many questions, and we have the answers! This coaster class is a gentle introduction to crocheted steek reinforcement. You’ll knit the homework before class, and then we’ll reinforce, cut, and finish in class with a log cabin knitting border. Previous crochet experience not required. We’ll also try other methods of reinforcing your steek: hand stitching and felting!

Technique Requirements: knit/purl,cast on/bind off, working in the round, stranded colorwork.

Homework:

Knit your coasters as detailed in the pattern, and give them a little steam blocking.

Supplies to Bring:

One light-colored and one dark-colored dk weight wool yarn, 50 grams/100 yards each, NOT superwash. You want a nice fuzzy/sticky wool for a good first steek experience. (If you’d like bigger coasters, worsted weight yarn is fine, too.) 16”US 7/4.5 mm circular needle, or size to get a fabric you like. Four stitch markers. Tapestry needle. Contrasting color fingering weight yarn for crocheting steek. Crochet hook, size E. Sharp scissors for cutting! Bring your leftover homework yarn, too.
