Join Melanie Falick for KNITSPEAK, a heartfelt and thought-provoking lecture and conversation about the language of knitting: how we describe what we do, what that reveals about our beliefs, and how shifting our words can elevate our sense of self, our communities, and even our well-being.

Melanie has been part of the knitting community for more than 30 years—as a writer, editor, publisher, traveler, color-lover, teacher, student of yarn, and maker of sweaters, hats, shawls, and more. Through all of it, she has focused on these essentials:

Knitting is far more than making things.

It’s how we remember those who came before us.

How we slow down.

How we connect—with ourselves, with fellow makers, with the natural world.

How we process sorrow, express love, spark imagination, build confidence, and discover purpose.

It’s excitement and calm, adventure and meaning—all looped together.

And yet… our society—and, at times, even we knitters, can unwittingly downplay what we do. We can make it sound small, cute, or trivial—when in truth it is powerful, grounding, and transformative.

This talk is an invitation to rethink that.
To explore how our words shape our stories.
To communicate the importance of knitting with more clarity, pride, and depth.
And to join Melanie in her mission to inspire more people to pick up needles—for creativity, for community, and for wellness.

If knitting has changed you (or if you’re curious how it might), this is a conversation you won’t want to miss.

Come for inspiration. Leave with new language for the handwork and the community we love.
