This class is in a one-hour lecture format. There will be time for Q&A at the end but no hands-on attention.

Cables and twisted stitch patterns and panels are used to emboss knit fabric. They are created by working stitches out of sequence and/or through the back loops. The two techniques are oftentimes combined to produce some of the most visually intriguing fabrics in hand knitting. Depending on the origins of the stitch patterns there can be very different levels of embossing from low to high relief. In this lecture, through studying charts, swatches, and finished pieces, attendees will learn how to identify various stitch structures with accomplished designer Shirley Paden.
