Helix knitting is a method of knitting jogless stripes in the round. It works well for single-row stripes, seamless garter stitch, and blending skeins of yarn. Play with color and texture! We’ll be starting a hat or cowl in class using the Hi Ho Helix pattern.
Technique Requirements: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, working in the round, have knit a few accessories.
Choose which color you’d like for your garter stitch edging. Wind off about 12 yards into a separate ball. With smaller ball and smaller needle, cast on 88 sts for a hat, or 96 sts for a cowl. Join to work in the round, purl 1 round. (Here’s my favorite way to join to work in the round: https://youtu.be/iFUvXFLZmw4 )
50g/150 yards worsted weight yarn in each of 2 or 3 colors that you like together (for 2 or 3 color stripes). 16" circular needles in US6 and US 8. One stitch marker to note beginning of round.
